2011 Boys Select Hoops Showcase

After a slow start to the boys’ game, with Team M-Plex clinging to a 10-8 lead after the first quarter, things really opened up as both teams pressed and pushed the ball.

M-Plex had four players in double digits with Tommy Mobley (Newton) leading the way with 17 points. Mobley added two steals, a block and an assist. Cape Cod’s premier point guard Joe Downes (Sandwich) had 12 points, two assists and a steal. Big man Ethan Webster-Zinn (Newton) led the frontcourt attack with 11 points and five rebounds.

Brian Dunlap (Natick) was all over the place for M-Plex on the press. He finished with 10 points, seven steals, four rebounds, two assists and a block. Mitchell Lundholm (Yarmouth) was also a force defensive recording five blocks and five steals to go along with six points in the victory.

Brendan Hill (Mansfield) turned in the most well rounded performance of the evening for M-Plex with six points, eight assists, eight rebounds and three steals. He also had a near dunk on a fast break.

For Select Hoops, Steven Daley (Westwood) led the game in points and rebounds as he recorded a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Conor Carmichael (North Attleboro) provided outside scoring punch with four 3-pointers en route to 14 points. Brett Stanton (Newton) did a little bit of everything while notching eight points, six rebounds, three steals and a block.

Kobi Antwi (Newton) added eight points, two steals, a rebound and a highlight reel block in defeat.

After watching 25 of the best players in the eastern Massachusetts, it was evident that the talent pool in this area is deep.

Team Select Hoops earned a 60-49 victory over Team M-Plex in the inaugural M-Plex / Select Hoops Showcase which was held at The M-Plex in Mansfield on Saturday afternoon.

Summer King (Walpole), Emily Sullivan (King Phillip) and Kylie Paul (North Attleboro) led Team Select Hoops in rebounds with five apiece.

Team M-Plex made a furious comeback in the second half by forcing Select Hoops into several turnovers. Amy Assad (Millis) was a standout in defeat. She led all players in scoring with 12 points and added six rebounds and three steals.

Future Bishop Feehan Shamrock, Madison Jolin (Rehoboth), compiled a stat stuffing performance with nine points, four steals, two assists, a block and a rebound for M-Plex.

Testimonials

Alex, thanks for a great event, everyone really had a good time.  Here is a photo of the Mansfield boys, hopefully a precursor to a similar picture in four years at the Garden!  Thanks again.

(From left to right: Will Kelleher, Michael Boen, Brendan Hill, Ryan Boulter).

Alex
I can't thank you enough for your efforts. What a wonderful opportunity it was for all those kids. The whole thing was first class.

Best Regards

I can't even begin to describe the joy you brought to these kids.  Most of them tried to be real blasé about the whole event but deep down inside it will be something many of them will remember for years to come.  And I think some of the parents, myself included, were just as thrilled as the kids.

Thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts.

Alex- I apologize for the late response, but I wanted to thank you for hosting the basketball event on Saturday night. Thank you for inviting my son Michael to play, it was a great experience for him and all the boys! Your coverage of youth basketball is tremendous and shows your love for the game and the kids that play. Please let me know if there is anything I can do for you.

Thanks again.

Alex,

I am sorry I did not take the time to meet you at the showcase.  You did a great job with the game and overall setting.  My wife and I were quite impressed that you pulled this event together.  I was fun seeing the level of play at this age and the way the players quickly responded to the coach’s defenses and offenses.  I know Joey will remember this experience and for me it was a nice conclusion to five years of travel basketball.

Thanks again.
