Select Hoops Showcase 2016
Foxboro - The sixth annual Select Hoops Showcase was loaded with local talent.
The 6th annual Select Hoops Showcase took place on March 5th and the area’s best 8th graders displayed their talents at the Foxboro Charter School.
GIRLS
In the girls’ game, Team MPC edged Team Select Hoops, 56-50. Team MPC held a slight five-point edge at halftime, but came out of the gates blazing in the second half and scored 23 third quarter points to extend its lead to 17 points. Eight players scored in the stanza, led by Mia DiBiase (Seekonk) and Liv Correia’s (North Attleboro) ten points combined.
It looked as if Team Select Hoops was down and out, but the girls rallied to score 21 fourth quarter points to make things interesting down the stretch, but fell six points short. Sydney Jones (Brookline) led the way with eight points in the comeback and Olivia Forbes (North Attleboro) scored six of her game high 13 points in the final surge.
For Team MPC, DiBiase and Correia led the way with eight points apiece. Tori Varsamis (Belmont) and Victoria Russian (Milford) added seven points apiece. Sydney Scales (Walpole) stuffed the stat sheet with eight boards, four points, three assists and had three steals. Ali Brigham was dominant on the glass with seven points.
For Team Select Hoops, Olivia Forbes led all scorers with 13 points. Sydney Jones added eight points, eight rebounds and four steals. Samantha Sousa (Franklin) added six points, six rebounds and two steals.
BOYS
The scoring picked up in the night session where the area’s best boys put on an offensive clinic. Team Select Hoops bested Team MPC, 116-83.
Team Select Hoops jumped out to an 18-point halftime lead and never looked back.
For Team Select Hoops, Dominic Mello (Wareham) was as good as advertised as he was dominant all night en route to 21 points, eight assists and three steals. The fantastic Marshfield 1-2 punch of Dylan Ahearn and Casey Phinney evenly combined for 30 points. Ahearn added seven rebounds and four assists. Phinney had five boards and two assists.
Mansfield’s Jason Comeau recorded 16 points and five rebounds. Mansfield’s Jack Mousette scored 11 points, dished out five assists, grabbed four boards and had three steals. Connor Campbell (Sandwich) and Qualeem Charles (Attleboro) added 10 points apiece. Charles led everybody in the rebound category with 13. Nico Scaringello (Franklin) added eight points and eight assists.
For Team MPC, Franklin’s Tyler Alloway connected on three 3-pointers en route to 16 points. Bryant Ciccio (Attleboro) had 16 points and four assists. Lorenzo Wilson (Attleboro) scored 10 points and grabbed five boards. Brandon Borde (Foxboro) added 11 points in the loss.
