select hoops showcase 2014
The fourth annual Select Hoops Showcase featured 48 of the best 8th graders in the state. The event was held at Foxboro Charter School, which turned out to be a perfect venue.
In the girls’ game, Team Select Hoops (coached by Jen Valente) defeated Mark Spolidoro’s Mass Premier team, 90-70.
Team Select Hoops jumped to an early lead and never looked back. Milton’s Ashley Ducharme led all scorers with 20 points and Ducharme’s Milton teammate Kendall Currence added 16. Newton’s Veronica Burton did a little bit of everything in the win as she scored 11 points, grabbed seven rebounds, had four steals and recorded three assists. Norwood’s Kaylin Reen showcased her long distance shooting prowess as she scored 12 points on four 3-pointers.
For Team Mass Premier, North Attleboro’s Anna Shaughnessy notched a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Foxboro’s Nicole Gallagher and Franklin’s Kiera Fernandes notched 13 points apiece. Stoughton’s Asiah Dingle chipped in with 11 points and three steals.

The boys’ game was well played and competitive. Team Select Hoops, coached by Paul Seaver, was able to outlast Bobby Introini’s Team Mass Premier, 111-101.
The Needham combination of Brandon Monheimer (24 points) and Thomas Shaughnessy (18 points) powered Team Select Hoops to victory. Rochester’s Noah Fernandes (13 points) was a spark on both ends. Stoughton’s Alex Sjoquist added 13 points and Newton’s Ethan Wright chipped in with 11.
Team Mass Premier received balanced production led by Attleboro’s Michael Perry (17 points, seven rebounds) and Needham’s Cam Nelson (17 points, five rebounds). Pembroke’s Tyler Spencer and Foxboro’s Joey Morrison added 16 points apiece.
