select hoops 2012

The 2012 Select Hoops Showcase was a successful event. For the second year in a row, the best 8th graders in the Select Hoops area gathered at the M-Plex for a competitive girls and boys all-star game.

In the girls’ game, Hopkinton’s Julia Thissell was dominant in Team Select Hoops win over Team M-Plex, 72-54. Thissell scored 21 points, grabbed 9 rebounds and blocked three shots.  North Quincy’s Katryna Veasey did a little bit of everything in the win with 10 points, 3 rebounds and a steal, an assist and a block.

Marshfield’s Maggie Ahearn led Team M-Plex in the loss with 12 points, seven rebounds, two steals and a block. Franklin’s Elizabeth Abbott added 10 points, three assists and three steals.

Thissell was named game MVP.

The boys contest was a fast-paced shootout. Team Select Hoops took a slight 43-42 lead into halftime over Team M-Plex.  Team SH would end up pulling away in the fourth quarter to win 85-68.

Braintree’s Brandon Fein led Team Select Hoops with 23 points, including eight in the fourth quarter. Sharon’s Michael Zola added 13 points and six rebounds.

For Team M-Plex, Dartmouth’s Matt Craig led a balanced attack with 11 points.

Fein was named game MVP.
